Course Recommendations

A graduate student is considered ‘full time’ with 9 credits.

For students enrolled as full time students in the MS, PhD, or certificate programs, the recommended course registrations for Fall Semester are the following:

  • Epi 810 (Intro to epidemiology)
  • EPI 811 (Applications in epidemiology)
  • EPI 808 (First course in biostatistics)
  • EPI 851 (SAS computational programming)
  • EPI 831 & 832 (for MS Requirement, Global Burden of Disease- 2 of 4 offerings)
  • EPI 805 (for PhD Requirement, Readings in historical roots of epidemiology)  
  • the yearlong 6 session non-credit workshops run by the Graduate School "Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) series".  A brochure can be downloaded from: http://grad.msu.edu/rcr/

Recommended for Spring Semester for first year students:

  • LCS 829 (2nd course in epidemiology- prerequisite =EPI 810)

  • EPI 809 (2nd course in biostatistics- prerequisite =EPI 808)

  • EPI 852 (SAS computational programming II- prerequisite =EPI 851

  • EPI 833 & 834 (Global Burden of Disease- 4 of 4 offerings)
