Communication disorders can affect education, vocation, and
social interactions for people with cerebral palsy. The
purpose of this research is to create the
Communication Function
Classification System
(CFCS) for children with cerebral palsy. The
CFCS will focus attention
on the child’s communication in everyday life and can be
used in research and clinical settings.
Participants
in this study will
-
Participate in a 4-hour meeting at Michigan State
University in East Lansing
-
Discuss
their opinions and suggestions about the
CFCS.
-
Be paid
$100.
-
Be
provided with travel expenses if needed.
There are few
direct benefits in this study except the feeling of being
involved in an important study that may contribute to
increased understanding of functional communication levels
of children with cerebral palsy.
The
oversight body for this study is the MSU Institutional
Review Board, IRB # 07-215. This research is partially
funded by a National Research Service Award (1F32 DC08265)
from the National Institute on Deafness and Other
Communication Disorders (NIDCD) and from a grant from the
United Cerebral Palsy Research and Education Foundation.
Data
collected through this research project will be used for the
development of the CFCS,
research conference presentations, and research journal
article submissions.
