Evaluating CP Web Sites

CPON is committed to evaluating health
information for the families of children who have cerebral
palsy. Information provided on the Internet is not always
supported by reliable scientific evidence. Often,
pseudoscience – “false science” – is used to persuade people
to accept false information in order to sell treatments that
may not be proven to be effective. Examples of pseudoscience
are: study results that cannot be reproduced, statements
made that are not supported by scientific discoveries, and
conclusions that go against what scientists know to be true.
It is part of CPON’s mission to help provide
tools for families to better evaluate health information
taken from the Internet. We will provide a list of reviewed
sites, forms to help users evaluate other web sites they
read, and links to current scientific studies. Web site
evaluation will rate sites from 1 through 5 on their
authority, accuracy, and usability, and will include a
paragraph describing the content of each site. CPON screens
each web site as carefully as possible, although information
may be updated or links may travel to other web sites we
cannot endorse. Therefore, caution is always advised.

will be using to review web sites. |
