Dr.
Breslau is a highly cited psychiatric
epidemiologist and PhD-trained sociologist who
makes major contributions and scientific
advances in the epidemiological study of
numerous psychiatric conditions and behavioral
disturbances, most prominently post-traumatic
stress disorder and tobacco dependence. She also
has been an important contributor of
epidemiological evidence on long-term effects of
low birthweight (e.g., with respect to
problem-solving capacities as disclosed by
intelligence and other cognitive testing). She
holds multiple NIH research awards, and is
actively involved in development of training
programs at MSU. She currently serves as Chair
of the department’s admissions committee. (See
